Mission:
ARYL 1X01: Bound for Cold Frontier
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Morning after Together at Last
As much as Annika had enjoyed their night of passion, she hadn’t much been looking forward to the morning. This was the morning that she was due her medical, Cas had already seen her residual external scars the night before but she still dreaded being examined, and all the questions that came with it. Plus the internal scans that would continue to show the extent of the damage to her reproductive organs, it was still hard to face the fact that they would never have a family of their own. With her appointment time looming she stepped into Sickbay putting on a brave face as she walked over to Castiel.
“I believe I’m your next patient” She offered the best smile she could muster.
"We can do this in a more private area, our quarters." Cas replied. He knew her hesitation, as they had talked about it on occasion, and the stop to future kids it meant.
Annika hadn’t considered that. “There’s no need to leave Sickbay, there’s rooms here for isolation.” she offered a more comfortable smile at least there they could talk without being overheard by anyone else.
Walking over to the... isolation room, mainly used for contagious diseases, or if someone needed to be decontaminated, he gestured towards the biobed, as he closed the door, and blinds.
Annika moved across to the biobed shedding her clothing as she went, Cas had seen her naked the night before when they’d made love, she had nothing to hide from him.
Watching her strip, this time for duty, he looked at her scars in a different manner. She had gotten the, and they brought her shame, and embarrassment. To him, it was something that made her, who she was. It was weird in a way, something that brought them both devastating news, had come to be part of her. He understood where she was coming from, "Those scars will take another few sessions before they are fully healed. 2 hrs per session, two weeks between. Another six months, and those won't even be there."
Annika nodded. “As much as I hate them…” her hand went to a scar across her midsection. “It’ll be odd not to have them. That explosion cost us so much!” She paused to gather her emotions. “I’m still finding it difficult to accept that we’ll never have children of our own.”
"What I learned is never take what we know as the absolute truth. Currently it has costed us the chance. Not saying it will never happen. Have faith."
Annika nodded. “I trust you, if you have faith then I’ll believe in that.” She offered a brief smile. “So when can we get started on my next treatment?”
"You really want to get rid of them."
Annika gave her husband a surprised look. "You think I should keep them? after that accident nearly cost me my life?"
""I think you do what you want, its also a sign of your strength. What you have been through. Apparently if you were a klingon, this would give you a huge honour. surviving something that should have killed you."
"I never thought of it like that" Annika gave a curious look. "How's about I take some time to think about it? Make up my mind once and for all."
"I would say talk to a trauma counsellor about it but... she’s already here."
Annika grinned. “In which case I’d defer to the next person in line, the Chief Medical Officer.” She gave Cas a wry smile.
"You know how to get me riled up don't you." He returned the smile. "Tonights going to be another sleepless one I promise you." He turned going through the computer. "I will set you up with Dr Mendez, a counsellor based on Earth, which deals with patients dealing with Trauma."
Annika nodded. “You do realise I saw a Counsellor after the accident don’t you? You were there, at least until Starfleet called you away again.” She paused. “Okay I’ll speak to Mendez if only to clear my head in regards my scarring.”
"I was there. But I also know scarring is more than physical. Not saying not to get rid of scars."
Annika nodded. “I know you’re not, and I did speak to a Counsellor at the time, though I guess a follow up wouldn’t hurt.” She offered a smile.
"Always is." Castiel replied with a reassuring smile. "Let them take care of your mental, I will take care of your physical."
Annika nodded. "You always take care of my physical needs Imzadi." she smiled a wry smile. " I guess I should be getting back to work."
"Clean bill of health. Ill mark that in your file." Cas replied as he kissed her quickly before sending her on her way.
