Another New Assignment

Mission: ARYL 1X01: Bound for Cold Frontier
Location: USS Saturn, enroute to Earth
Timeline: Current

Sitting in her office onboard the Excelsior class USS Saturn, Annika read over her orders one more time.

"Lieutenant Johnson, enclosed are your orders for immediate transfer to Earth Starbase for the purposes of reassignment to the USS Ark Royal under the command of Captain T'Kal. You are to assume the duties of the Counsellor with immediate effect."

It wasn't so much that it bothered her transferring ship, but she had transferred every two years since her graduation from the Academy. She was starting to feel that she'd never be able to truly put down roots anywhere as she'd only be transferred off yet again to pastures new. As one of a small handful of Betazoids outside her home system, she was part of a program that was aiming to prove Counsellors could be an asset aboard ships. She was also more or less an Ambassador for her people, so her assignments were an important way for her to show just how useful Betazoids could be.

Her boxes were packed and ready, as were her things in her quarters. Some hadn't even been unpacked since her transfer to the Saturn, so that had saved her time. Fortunately the Saturn was returning to Earth anyway, so she had a comfortable ride back to spacedock instead of having to find another way.

"Penny for your thoughts Counsellor" Captain Richards smiled as he walked through the open door.

"Captain" Annika smiled warmly as she put down her orders and gave Richards the attention he deserved. "I was just looking through my orders."

"Moving again, not much fun is it?" Richards offered an understanding smile. "For what it's worth you've been a big asset, and a good friend. I'll admit I was sceptical when you first came onboard, but you've proven my misgivings to be wrong. I'll be sorry to see you go Annika."

"Thank you Sir" Annika smiled warmly. "The plus point of this assignment is that I'll finally be serving with my husband, we've spent a lot of years apart communicating via subspace and meeting up on shoreleave."

"Now that I can understand" Richards nodded. "My wife and I spent many years apart, and I wasn't there for her when she needed me the most. Don't make that mistake Annika, fight for your right to be with your husband you never know when something might go wrong."

Annika nodded understanding only too well what Richards meant, she'd almost lost her life a few years earlier instead losing the chance to ever have children. It had struck hard, and as a result she'd distanced herself from her time with Castiel, something she intended to make up for once they were together. "Thank you for everything Captain, I'll miss everyone."

"Anyway I'll leave you to it, we'll be arriving at Spacedock in 55 minutes." He smiled and headed on his way hoping Annika would be happy aboard her new ship.

Standing up from her seat Annika headed for her quarters, she had a few more things to finish packing ready for her move to her new home.
