Mission:
ARYL 1X03: The Listening Post
Location: Briefing room, Station Delta IV
Timeline: Simultaneous with "Fragments: Interference" and "Fragments: Subterfuge"
The chief of communications of Station Delta IV, who was also the First Officer, welcomed Captain T'Kal and her team aboard. While the security lead escorted Doctor Johnson and Nurse Dovria to the medical room, the comms chief brought the rest of them to the station's common room -- the largest space aboard Delta IV that wasn't the Operations Centre.
The station commander was already there. "Captain, Lieutenants, Ensign," he said, acknowledging each of them. "We have a Master Systems Display set up. All raw data from our detection event is being made available."
"Thank you Commander," T'Kal told him. She turned to her Chief Science Officer. "Lieutenant Novotná, you were working on new ways to detect and analyze hyperphasic radiation."
Torii nodded at the Lieutenant as she fidgeted in the armor that had been assigned to her. It didn't fit properly, and for some reason all of it itched and she couldn't wear the assigned helmet, because her ears always got squished from them and they hadn't come up with one yet that worked properly. She scanned the area just out of habit.
Looking around the room, Meg appreciated its larger proportions. She had found the station so far to be cramped and more than a little claustrophobic. She wondered if it had been due to the resources at the Federation's disposal then, when everything had cost real money. A quaint notion, even for a first-generation citizen of the Federation. The Orion looked to the MSD, saw the little section squared away for comms traffic and other frequency data, itching to get her hands on it.'
"What a lovely little station... The perfect place to raise your kids." Renata quipped under her nose as she looked around. "Yes, sir." she replied to Captain T'Kal. "We were able to rig up a device to modify and the boost the sensors so they'd be able to detect and pinpoint the radiation."
'Sounds fancy,' Meg said as she leaned in Renata's direction. 'Want to show us how it works?' she asked, genuinely interested in her friend's solution to their problem.
“Is our computer system connected to the station’s?” T’Kal asked her Chief Comms Officer
Raising an eyebrow, Meg scanned the consoles in front of her. Picking out the dedicated comms panel, she looked over it carefully. 'No, not yet,' she said idly, setting to work on the relatively simple task. 'Opening tight band ...' she muttered to herself, 'confirmation of ID ... Reciprocal confirmation.' She waited for a few moments to see that the connection between the station and the ship's computer had been established. The Orion looked up at the Vulcan and grinned, 'we're in business.'
“Then please demonstrate, Ms. Novotná,” the Captain instructed. “Applying the original station data feed. Perhaps we can uncover further information already.”
"Yes, sir. Just a second." Renata nodded and opened the small science toolbox she brought along, and took out a small, rectangular 'box'. "With this little gadget I'm able to pick up all the hyperphasic radiation from here to the Suez Canal. Let me see if I can connect it." She sat down to the computer interface to create the connection necessary.
Peering over Renata's shoulder, Meg watched with interest as she worked her magic with this mysterious box she had produced. She leaned in towards Elkovais, 'science really is similar to magic, isn't it?'
"Something that's definitely way above my pay grade." Torii agreed as she watched what Renata was doing as well. Her nose twitched along with the tips of her tails as she wondered why she was even here, aside from as obvious protection for the Captain on an away mission, "I may have gone through Starfleet Academy, but I'm still getting used to the difference in technology."
The Captain’s communicator chirped, so she stepped away to take the call. While Renata finished plugging her device into the station computer, she spoke with medical, followed very quickly by security.
